Piet Engelman was born in Paris in 1953, the son of a painter, and whose family for generations has been involved in the arts. Martin Engelman, his father, was professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin and his uncle Jan Engelman the known poet.Piet received his baccalaureate in 1972, and shortly afterwards went to study Painting in Berlin at the Academy of Fine Arts with professor Breitkreuz and professor Dunkel. In 1974, he began additional study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam with professor Jutta Metzger, Paul ten Hoppen and Harry op de Laak.As a young promising talent, he was selected to exhibit at the "Fodor Museum" in Amsterdam. The Dutch government bought many of his works, permanently placing them in public collections throughout the country.In 1978, he moved to Paris with his wife and participated at different group exhibitions: Salons. Then moved to the country, Maignelay - Montigny where he was in contact with the nature. He lived there with his family among many other artists (musicians, dancers, painters) in a very large castle, and create some his most outstanding works. After several trips to Greece, he became attracted to the country and it is there that he now lives and works.
